The spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is a popular, resilient herbaceous perennial known for its arching, grass-like leaves and trailing stems. It features striking linear foliage—often striped with white—and produces small white flowers and miniature "spiderettes". It thrives indoors in bright, indirect light and is highly prized for air purification.

Key Characteristics
Appearance: Features long, slender leaves (usually 12–18 inches) that arch outward from a central rosette, giving it a cascading shape. The variegated variety features green margins with a cream or white stripe down the center.
Growth Habit: The plant produces long, wiry stems holding small, star-shaped white flowers. After blooming, tiny tufts of leaves called "spiderettes" or "pups" develop on the ends of these stems.
Size: Mature plants generally reach 12–24 inches in height and can spread up to 36 inches. [
Popular Varieties: Along with the classic variegated types, there are solid green versions and the "Bonnie" variety, which features crinkly, curly leaves.

Care and Maintenance
Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Direct sun will scorch the leaves.
Soil and Water: Thrives in loose, well-draining potting soil. Keep the soil moderately moist but not waterlogged. Because they are sensitive to fluoride and chlorine in tap water, brown leaf tips are common; using filtered or distilled water can help.
Propagation: The plantlets (spiderettes) root very easily in water or directly in soil, making them simple to propagate.
Pet-Friendly: Unlike many common houseplants, spider plants are considered non-toxic to both humans and pets.
